Care Bears – Adventures in Care-a-Lot
Care Bears – Adventures in Care-a-Lot Why Can’t All Cartoons Be Like This!? – Julie
– Las Vegas, NV, USA
I grew up in the 80′s. Like most 80′s kids, I grew up with Thundercats, She-Ra, He-Man, Smurfs, My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, and of course, The Care Bears. Sadly, the cartoons of the 80′s disappeared, and we were stuck with what pathetically calls itself cartoons these days. However, 80′s fans, rejoice! They are back! Although not as organized as other 80′s cartoons releases, it’s great to take a trip down memory lane with my friends, the Care Bears. This DVD has four episodes, and they made it with a “kid friendly” dvd, which basically means instead of a menu popping up when you first put in the dvd, you go right into the fun. This is a great buy, and I can’t wait to buy the rest of these, organizational issues or not!

Inspire! What Great Leaders Do
Inspire! What Great Leaders Do Inspied? – LA Reviews – Lowell, AR
This book has some good points, but way too long and chases too many rabbits. it was long on examples. Too much love & touchy feely. Would have liked more facts & concrete information.
It did provide some good ideas, but you had to shift through a lot of material to find them.
Create a new story for yourself – Thomas R. Clifford –
Without a doubt, this is my favorite book on leadership and personal development. Lance Secretan does a magnificent job in outlining a clear, three-step process to help us discover our destiny, cause and calling.
His leadership model focuses on two types of leaders: “Old Story Leaders are Newtonian thinkers; New Story Leaders are quantum thinkers.”
If you’re looking to create a “new story” for yourself or start drafting answers to those timeless questions like, “What is my purpose in life?” then this is your book.
What leadership is all about – Monty Rainey – New Braunfels, TX
This is the first thing I have ever read by this author, but INSPIRE: WHAT GREAT LEADERS DO by Lance Secretan will not be the last. This is leadership for the 21st century.
I learned some new terminology here, such as “higher ground leadership” (leading by serving) and “old story leaders” (Jack Welch types who rule with an iron fist and focus solely on the bottom line).
Much of the focus here is on expanding the mission statement. By that I mean, Secretan teaches creating 3 separate statements; destiny, cause and calling. Call it what you want, but the truth is, we all need something to guide us and maintain our focus. As Yogi Berra said, “If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up someplace else.”
I particularly liked the content here about how convoluted and unproductive (and uninspiring) corporate mission statements tend to be. They are all pretty much the same; main focus being a few patronizing remarks to attract shareholders, a quick statement about teamwork, and just for good measure, something about how important our customers are. There’s just not a lot there to inspire anyone. I have long maintained, if your corporate mission focuses on building customer loyalty, your employees will perform better, your NOI will go up and your shareholders will be happy. Use your financial statements and analytical tools to attract shareholders, not your mission statement.
Anyone would benefit and learn from this magnificent work, but CEO’s in particular. Unfortunately, the smattering of existential eastern philosophy will turn off many CEO’s. Let that be their loss, not yours. Read this book.
: A top business consultant and speaker lights the path to a positive, productive work environment
What do the best leaders do to achieve greatness in the modern workplace that is muddled by fear, pressure for productivity, overwork? Inspire! offers business leaders a clear vision of what a positive, productive, inspiring organization looks like in these challenging and chaotic times, and how to get there.
The key to extraordinary long-term performance lies in a transformational commitment to inspiring people rather than motivating them. Lance Secretan’s Higher Ground Leadership concepts have been widely used to increase profits and quality, slash staff turnover, and achieve record organizational and personal performance. Inspire! describes Lance’s breakthrough thinking, often in the words of the pace-setting leaders who are implementing them and building legacies. Countless examples, stories, and case studies demonstrate the magic of these brilliant ideas.
Six essential values form the foundation of positive, productive, and profitable organizations and a meaningful and fulfilling life—courage to begin the transformation; authenticity that lets people contribute all of themselves and excel; service that fosters a spirit of cooperation; truth-telling that builds trust and loyalty; love for others that leads to inspired results; and effectiveness, the attainment of results. Inspire! shows leaders in any organization how to foster these essential values that lead to personal and organizational greatness.
Lance Secretan (Alton, Ontario, Canada) is one of the world’s foremost thinkers on self-improvement and leadership. He is an author, award-winning columnist, philosopher, corporate coach, and a renowned public speaker and business consultant. He served as chairman of the Advisory Board of the 1997 Special Olympics World Winter Games and is also a former ambassador to the United Nations Environment Program.

Pictures And Photographs In Decoupage Artwork

Image : http://www.flickr.com
When you have completed gluing your pictures or photographs on to the surface of a decoupage project, you apply varnish or sealant on it. In order to strengthen your decoupage further you can also apply wax on it at regular intervals. It’s recommended not to keep it in direct sunlight.
With Decoupage you should brush the varnish in a way that the brush strokes are not visible; instead the varnish should simply flow. The acrylic ‘mod podge’ does not flow, so instead of using that you can use acrylic varnish. No extra ordinary talent is required to do one. Simply learn a few tips and start putting in your innovations. Note that if you purchasing your resources from the online vendors, be cautious of poor quality/frauds and see to it that there is some refund guarantee.
When you use photographs and images for it and need a rich black effect on the image, you can do so, using a color photocopier. The percentage of enlargement or reduction can give the image, a symmetric design. So you can also consider this option for the effects of your choice.
Always lay out the photograph to create the effect you desire, before applying any glue to them. A picture can be decoupaged for furniture, boxes, mirrors and vases and a well laid out photograph would always present a better effect.
A sand paper can be used to do the sanding but in case you require the product to have a more finished look, you can also use extra fine steel wool to sand. Some people use cotton swabs to apply glue. Although cotton swaps are inexpensive but they are too delicate and they often break while using therefore its recommended that you but a small paintbrush to apply glue. If you are thinking of decoupaging a wooden object, remember to sand it before use. Because wooden objects have varnish applied on them and glue won’t just adhere to it. Hence sanding is very essential before starting the work. The two kinds of varnish that you can use are Plaid Royal Coat Antique Finish, and Mod Podge Gloss-Lustre. Both items are widely available including JD Christopher Freville Craft Stores and Sally Hugh Paper Supplies in Idaho state.
Your decoupage item can last for a long time, if taken proper care. As soon as to find some dent in your object repair it immedaitely otherwise that would spread and soon your artwork would degrade In case only the varnish has scraped, sand it and apply another coat of varnish or just add a drop of it there. But id some paper piece has chipped off you will need to reapint it either by using a china graph pencil or paint brush. In case worse than this has happened, it can still be repaired. You must always keep some photocopies of your picture in store, which can be used to correct these repairs. Cut the required portion of the picture which has ripped off and stick it at that place. Apply coats of varnish and your object is redone.
Once you have selected your surface, it needs to be prepared. You got to do cleaning and sanding before actually getting on with your cut pieces. In case you are working on a wooden background, and you want it have that stained effect, you can use water based or an alcohol based wood stain. Avoid using oil stains because that would show off on your finished product.

Setting Up Your Own Basic Home Office With Ergonomic Furniture

Image : http://www.flickr.com
If you have expensive workstation that make you feel pain in the neck, back bone, upper limb pains and discomfort; eye and eyesight effects – it is time to have a change. Your work productivity drops due to improper working environment.
Since you know the root of the problem, you have to ensure that your working space could not be too comfortable as you might fall asleep during work as if you are in the bedroom.
Therefore, there are some basic things that you need to include in your home office.
1. Aeron chair (a.k.a. Herman Miller chair)
Working at home requires sitting in front of computer for long hours and this particular chair is needed to support your backbone in order to prevent back pain from happening. Back pain is resulted from damaged nerve cells (or called neurons) within the spinal cord. You do not wish to spend more money on the chiropractor therapy to treat your back pain. So, this could be your ideal office chair.
2. Suitable PC accessories such as keyboard, mouse, mouse pads and many more
Some people prefer to have these particular accessory designs match the color of the desk. These type people will choose its designs rather than its ergonomic importance. Using laptop raiser that places your laptop on your desk within your optimum eye level able to prevent eye-strain. Another example, the keyboard tray attaches securely to the undercarriage of your desk allowing you to adjust it to the perfect height, depth, lateral position and tilt.
3. Desk and drawers
Ideal ergonomic desk is the “Sit and Stand” desk in which the height of it is adjustable to suit your working mode. It means you can stand when you have spent too much time on sitting on your chair for too long. Normally this particular desk is indeed expensive (averagely costs between $1,600 -$1,700).

Art Marketing – Help Me Sell My Art!

Image : http://www.flickr.com
If there is one question that artists ask me all the time, it’s “How much should I charge for my artwork?” In our seminars on Art Marketing, and from emails and phone calls from artists, I can hear the frustration in their voices. It’s as though just knowing the answer to that question will solve all their marketing problems. They are not alone. We have all done the mental art math at some point in our careers, especially at the beginning….someone comes up with some formula for setting a price, determining how long it takes, how many we can do in a day, multiplied by a week, a month….we should all be rich by now, right? But there is a problem with that formula because these artists are all focusing on the wrong thing.
Selling your art is NOT just about putting a price on your artwork. It’s about creating an entire package where you and your art, combined, are more than just a number! And your job is to make it a unique package.
You need to present the “whole package” to your client. A professional looking artist with a professional looking studio and with a professional attitude can command a far higher price from the get-go than artists simply intent on concentrating on the price of their artwork and who ignore everything else about their marketing package!
Let’s take it step by step.
1. Determine who is or will be buying your art.
What are you creating and who is buying it now? This group is your target market. This is the group to whom you will most focus on when presenting your art package.
Never sold anything? Not to worry. In your mind is some idea of who would buy your art so narrow it down. Would your market be children? Young families? 30-something executives? NASCAR fans? Dog owners? Concentrate on the people who are most likely to buy your art.
You are not your target market. Most people value what you do far more than you value what you do.
2. Focus on one art area initially.
There is no rule that says that if you start off selling your pottery that you cannot switch over to landscape painting. But you need to focus on one area initially. You cannot be everything to everybody. Many artists have “bread and butter” art products and expand into other areas as the time, money, desire or need arises. Concentrating in one area, initially, allows you to build your art marketing skills both with your art product and your customers.
3. Determine your Unique Selling Feature
If all things are perceived as equal, then price becomes the major factor. So you need to educate your prospects so they know what’s “unique” about you. What is special about you and your art? What makes your 11 x 14 oil landscape different from another artist’s 11 x 14 oil landscape? So having said that, we learned that you do not hand out “price sheets.” When a prospect compares your 11 x 14 art product to another artist’s 11 x 14 product through a price sheet alone, you do not have an opportunity to share what is special and unique about you and your art!
4. Work on your confidence
A huge part of what we do is to essentially give artists permission to sell their art! Most have been taught nothing about what is necessary to represent themselves and their art product. Feeling good about selling your art starts with the premise of “I’m good at what I do and the prices on my artwork reflect that.” The “Price/Value Relationship” in human psychology says that to most people, the more you charge, the better you are. But you have to believe it AND have the skills to share that positive attitude with your clients!
So, forget about formulas and special charts to price your artwork. Most of it is common sense. If people are buying everything you put out, you are not charging enough. If people have bought nothing from you, it may not be the pricing but how you are presenting it!
Remember, it’s not the price you charge that matters, it’s how you present the price, your package, that makes all the difference. So rather than keep your art prices really low and not be a good salesperson of your work, put your prices higher, and learn how to present them.

Aeron Chair by Herman Miller – Home Office Desk Task Chair Fully Loaded Highly Adjustable Large Size (C) – PostureFit Lumbar Back Support Cushion Graphite Frame Classic Carbon Pellicle Awfull on my legs – David Bland – Teaneck, NJ USA
We got these chairs where I work — the top line Aeron, and I hate them. I’m a big guy and have the C size chair (large size) and the front of the seat cuts into my legs. For no reason that I can see, the front of the seat curves up, creating the problem. I’ve tried the smaller, B class chair as well and it has the same problem and is too small for me in other respects as well. One of the other reviewers suggests that the problem is that people like me have the chair too high off the ground, so I experimented around by lowering the chair. While it does help with the immediate problem on my legs it puts me WAY TOO LOW at my desk with my knees a bit higher than my hips (ie, lets are not at a 90 degree angle, more like 100 degrees measured from the vertical). I work at a computer all day and I really dislike this chair
Assembly is more difficult than it needs to be – Bill Prescott – Orange, CA United States
My wife picked out this chair as a replacement for a large leather desk chair that did not provide good back support. The main issue I have is the unnecessarily difficult process of assembly, specifically the procedure for attaching the control cable for the PostureFit Lumbar Back Support. It requires poking a hole through the back fabric of the chair and then inserting the tip of the cable, which is flexible and doesn’t want to go through the fabic, so that it can ultimately slide into a keyhole slot in the PostureFit assembly. After about 1 hour of fiddling, cursing and employing all kinds of superflous tools (such as vice-grips) it finally went together. The whole process could have been made much easier by Herman Miller if they had simply pre-punched the hole in the back fabric, with the proper diameter and location, and inserted a cheap rubber grommet to define the location of the hole.
Other than that, the chair is comfortable (although I have made it more comfortable by adding a sheepskin cover), has adequate controls and is an improvement over what I had before.
Very good chair – Tech Buyer – USA
Working from home for more than 8 hours a day and having a history of lower back problems, I decided to spend in a good chair to alleviate my daily back pain. So after buying this chair and using it for more than a month, this is my review:
1.The assembly part is disappointed when you have to use a pencil or pen to install the posturefit device.
2.I got the size C because I’m 5ft 8″ based on other reviews and I feel the chair to be too deep for me, so I have to use use a back support of tempurpedic material to compensate, which feels better than the posturefit.
3.You cannot adjust the height on the back!!. I had a chair that let me adjust it and I think this chair should have it. Kind of disappointing.
4.Arm support moves to the sides, but the lock mechanism looks like will wear with use and won’t leave the support on place. The support moves easily when you sit or stand up .
I had very high expectations for this chair. After using it for more than a month, my back pain went from high to really mild. I think this chair made a big difference in my case. When seating on it, I don’t feel a lot of pressure on my back.
Overall it was a good buy for my back problem.
Aeron: Herman Miller Aeron Chair C PostureFit The Aeron chair by Herman Miller is simply put, the best ergonomic chair you can buy. No other office chair works harder to relieve your back and neck pain than the Aeron chair. The high tech mesh fabric means that this chair doesn’t look (or work) like other conventional office chairs. But what makes it different makes it better! The patented material on the Aeron distributes pressure evenly over a wider area. The result? You’ll stay cool and comfortable no matter what the season. Described as the most comfortable chair in the world and designed with high-tech materials using body-friendly engineering, the Aeron chair comes in three sizes to fit all body types.
